Original Designs for Musicians and Athletes

The Story

It Started With My Son and A Guitar

My son is an amazing musician, a guitarist. In the fall of 2006 I saw a t-shirt design that I didn't like, but I liked the tagline "Lord of the Strings." I allowed my mind to churn and my creative juices started flowing. I soon had designed, and have since copyrighted, the word Lord where the letter "d" is a musical instrument.

I created the design in Photoshop, put it on a t-shirt and sent the image to my son asking if he'd like one for Christmas. "NO," was his reply. "Mom, you know I don't like anything but plain black t-shirts." I was discouraged because I thought my idea was so brilliant.

About a month later I received an e-mail from CafePress.com telling me I'd sold one of those t-shirt designs? Really?! Then I sold another, and another, and so it started.

Additional Instruments Were Added

I expanded my designs by making them for every stringed instrument I knew of: mandolin, banjo, harp, bass, violin, cello, sitar, dulcimer. Now I had 9 musical designs plus a Treble Clef design.

Then Came The Ladies

Knowing that women also play all the instruments I've mentioned, I decided to redo my design as "Lady of the Strings" where the letter "d" in Lady was replaced by a stringed instrument. After I created all of those designs I sent off another Copyright application to the U.S. Copyright Office.

Then Came The Sports

After the ladies designs were complete the idea of using my design for althletes popped into my head. Photoshop was my constant friend. I revised my designs for both men and women for stringed sports equipment: tennis, racquetball, badminton, and lacrosse.

Then Came The Swing

Adding one more design to this collection, altering my image slightly, was Lord of the Swing (featuring table tennis, hockey, golf, badminton, tennis, cricket, racquetball, baseball and lacrosse) and Lady of the Swing (featuring hockey, table tennis, field hockey, softball, lacrosse, golf, racquetball, badminton and tennis).
